Description
Letters relating to the First World War service of Brigadier General Harold Edward Elliott, 15th Brigade. Some of the letters were censored by Pompey, and later his daughter Violet prior to donation removing details of a personal nature. The letters cover January 1917 - April 1917 including; a poem entitled 'The Little Poem of Life'; descriptions of the heavy snow in the frontline trenches; his battle with bronchitis; information on his quarrel with General Birdwood; details of the Germans retreat to the Hindenberg Line; the debacle with Brigade Major Wieck and Major General Hobbs in relation to Elliott's planned attack on the Germans; the sight of men who died in plane crashes.
