Description

Papers relating to the First World War service of Brigadier-General Joseph John Talbot Hobbs, 1st Australian Division, 16 April - 13 December 1915.

This collection primarily contains official records written and compiled by Hobbs in his role as commanding officer of the 1st Australian Divisional Artillery during the campaign on the Gallipoli Peninsula. The collection is comprised of orders, reports, memos, notes, maps and tables, much of which relates to artillery operations including a descriptive list of divisional artillery officers mentioned for gallant and meritorious conduct.

The collection also includes a series of eight sketches of Turkish positions and strategic locations on the Gallipoli Peninsula by Corporal George Courtney Benson, who was appointed an official war artist in 1918.
