Description

File of letters relating to the First World War service of Lieutenant Colonel Owen Glendower Howell-Price. 3rd Australian Infantry Battalion. These letters written between 12 December 1914 and 14 August 1916 mention: the trip through the Suez canal and landing at Cairo and onward to Mena; sightseeing at the Pyramids and in Cairo; the deaths of several men, including Captain Charles Edward Leer, Captain Ronald Burns and 733 Private Leonard Charles Hammond; the battle of Lone Pine; his feeling about being made Officer Commanding of the 3rd Battalion and his previous commander Lieutenant Colonel Robert Haylock Owen.
