Operation Wing Fury, Force Extraction [Part 5 of 5] Pilot Perspective. A mission involving three UH60 Blackhawks, two US/AUS Chinooks, and two AH64 Apache Helicopters. Mission Duration 2.7 Hours. Crew: Pilots Major Jason Duggan (RHS) and Captain Jason Otter (LHS); Aircrewman Technician Corporal Garth Pregnell (RHS); Aircrewman LHS Unknown and Aircrewman Technician Sergeant Lee Maloney (RAMP). Footage captured from the perspective of Pilot Captain Jason Otter, C Squadron, 5th Aviation Regiment (5 Avn Regt) from the left-hand Pilot Seat of Australian Army CH-47D Chinook A15-202.
Captain Otter later noted: “This footage shows the extraction of ground Forces inserted earlier in the day. The vision was captured utilising a pen camera attached to my helmet. Crew communications are heard over the aircraft communications system (ICS). Following on from AWM2019.311.8.281 [Part 4 of 5] this footage commences post extraction of ground forces flying enroute to the second objective. Chinook 202 passes through the Initial Point (IP) on approach to the LZ at 6:00. A dust landing occurs at 6:40 where dummy (false) insertion of troops occurs i.e. the assault force remains on board the aircraft). The footage continues with the return flight to Kandahar at 50’ AHO (above heights obstacle) to Tanak Farm where a dust landing on a road occurs at (22:00). Tanak farms is a live gunnery range located on the boundary of Kandahar Air Base with connections to Osama Bin Laden. Chinook 202 then departs (23:00) for a landing at Kandahar Base taxiway foxtrot at 24:50. Shutdown checks are commenced and the video ends with the Auxiliary power unit being powered up prior to engine shutdown. End of mission”.
