Description
Personal papers of Private John Hardie (3842) of 33rd Infantry Battalion, AIF. Diary, postcards, letters and narrative account, describing experiences and movements on the Western Front. Mentions battle at Zonnebeke during September 1917, describing artillery barrage and sights along Menin Road (such as dead and wounded men). Also praises Australian nurses, mentions French civilians, no-man's land, Armentieres, and being wounded at Villers-Bretonneux while on guard duty. Includes discharge and war pension life certificates, souvenirs and newspaper clippings.
