Description
A Royal Australian Armoured Corps (RAAC) Churchill 'Crocodile' tank, fires a burst of flame on the range at Puckapunyal. The Australian army purchased 51 Churchill tanks from Britain in late 1945 but the vehicles arrived too late to see action in the Pacific theatre. A number of these vehicles were configured as flame throwing tanks. A further order for 100 vehicles was later cancelled. Churchill tanks formed the post war mainstay of the RAAC until they were finally phased out in 1956, being replaced by Centurion Mk V/1 tanks.
