Collection relating to the service of 531 (later 3228) Sergeant (Sgt) Percy Ernest Virgoe, 4th Light Horse Regiment. Collection consists of a handwritten diary from 30 December 1914 - 15 November 1917; typescript transcript of same; typescript transcript of a memoir 'Memoirs of an ANZAC' written in 1916 (on Sgt Virgoe's first return to Australia and convalescence in Victoria) covering camp life at Broadmeadows, his transfer from 5th Battalion to 4th Light Horse Reiment and his experience at Gallipoli; Discharged Soldier's Pass Book; 3 x Soldier's Pay Books; British Passport; 3 x postcards; 1 x group portrait of the Church House staff, AIF Headquarters, London; 2 x photograph albums. Of the albums, one is a small green covered album titled 'Photographs taken during 2nd trip from Australia of The European War, 1914-1919', containing small black and white photos which are well captioned. The other is a larger green covered album titled 'Photos of Egypt, Anzac (Gallipoli), England, Dakar (French Tenegal), Durban (South Africa), many of which are captioned.
