Maygar, Leslie Cecil, VC, DSO, VD (Lieutenant Colonel, b.1868 - d.1917)
Correspondence, photographs and papers relating to the First World War service and death of Lieutenant Colonel Leslie Cecil Maygar VC, DSO, MID. Comprises letters written from Egypt to his mother (16 May 1915), sister Nellie (10 June 1916). The letter to his mother expresses his readiness for active service in Gallipoli and also makes reference to the heroics of the initial landing. Also a Field Service Postcard to his mother dated 3 June 1915, telegram (6 November 1917) reporting Lt Col Maygar's death on 1 November 1917 and a letter of condolence, dated 12 January 1918, written by J C Wallace to Lt Col Maygar's father. Collection also includes photographs of Lt Col Maygar's grave in Palestine (Military Cemetery, Beersheba) with related letter to Mrs Maygar (dated 18 March 1920) from AIF Base Records, two MID certificates (13 October 1916 and 23 October 1917), Probate Deed for Lt Col Maygar's estate, undated newspaper obituary notice and three studio portrait photographs of Lt Col Maygar (including a duplicate of H12606).
