Map holder : Sergeant E R McCormack, 2/3 Battalion
Canvas and pressed fibre bag designed to carry maps. The bag is roughly rectangular, and has a canvas top flap secured by a pair of brass press studs. The bottom section of the bag is reinforced with a second layer of canvas and permanently fixed to its compressed fibre backing with four brass studs. On the outer side of the bag, on the canvas is written 'NX5425 SGT. McCORMACK.E.R. 1-8-41'. A canvas strap approximately 57 cm long is attached to the top end of the bag by two brass buckles. On the inside of the bag there is a layer of perspex. The perspex is fixed to the fibre backing with four metal clips. The inside of the canvas has a number of compartments designed to house writing equipment, the area around this is stained with blue, red and green ink.
Associated with the service of NX5425 Sergeant Eric Robert McCormack. McCormack was born in Panchgani, India on 28 October, 1908 and enlisted with the AIF on 3 November, 1939. He served with the Australian Army Canteen Service and later transferred to 2/3 Battalion. The Battalion served in the Middle East and in New Guinea during the Second World War. McCormack was discharged on 12 September, 1945.
