Description

Other rank's unlined khaki wool serge service dress jacket pair with pleated breast pockets with triple pointed flaps and a pair of expanding pockets over each hip with straight flaps waist pockets. The buttons down the front of the jacket, and securing the pockets, shoulder straps and cuffs are oxidised copper Australia Military Forces ones. Woven rank chevrons for a sergeant are carried on the right upper sleeve. The lower right sleeve bears four blue embroidered overseas service chevrons. Each upper sleave bears a horizontally aligned, brown over green, rectangular colour patch for 2/3 Battalion, AIF. Curved oxidised copper 'AUSTRALIA' titles are fitted to each shoulder strap. Oxidised copper 'rising sun' collar badges are also attached to each side of the collar. There is a small pocket on the inside of the jacket corresponding to the right waist pocket. A maker's label is sewn on the inside of the jacket underneath the right breast pocket. Details of Sergeant E R McCormack have been written in black ink, over the maker's label.

History / Summary

Worn by NX5425 Sergeant Eric Robert McCormack. McCormack was born in Panchgani, India on 28 October, 1908 and enlisted with the AIF on 3 November, 1939. He served with the Australian Army Canteen Service and later transferred to 2/3 Battalion. The Battalion served in the Middle East and in New Guinea during the Second World War. McCormack was discharged on 12 September, 1945.
