Altar cross : Chaplain C W Dillon
Description
Altar cross made from Mulga wood with a layered tapering base.
History / Summary
Presented to NX147635 Chaplain Cecil William Dillon. Chaplain Dillon served at St Andrew's Church of England parish in Strathfield, NSW and on enlistment in the AIF joined units in the Northern Territory, including a period at Larrimah. When stationed here the unit was involved in building a racecourse and Chaplain Dillon agreed to postpone a church parade to allow the racecourse to be finished on time. In thanks those involved in the construction had one of the carpenters construct the cross out of a piece of local Mulga wood. Chaplain Dillon was discharged on 13 March 1946, with the rank of Captain, from HQ 2 Aust Sup Bde.
