Dillon served at St Andrew's Church of England parish in Strathfield, NSW and on enlistment in the AIF joined units in the Northern Territory, including a period at Larrimah. He was attached to 10/48 Battalion from May 1944 to January 1945 and was discharged on 13 March 1946, with the rank of Captain, from HQ 2 Aust Sup Bde.
