Description

Collection relating to the Second World War service of Lieutenant Colonel William Watt Leggatt, DSO, MC, 2/40 Infantry Battalion, Timor and Changi, 1942-1946.

Collection contains records prepared by Lieutenant Colonel Leggatt as commanding officer of 2/40th Australian Infantry Battalion or "Sparrow Force" during the defence of Timor and later when in captivity at Changi prisoner of war camp. Collection includes Leggatt's diary, nominal rolls, casualty lists, financial reports and operational reports for Sparrow Force units, and recommendations for honours and awards.
