Specimen clasp 'MALAYSIA' for Australian Active Service Medal 1945 - 1975
Specimen clasp 'MALAYSIA' for the Australian Active Service Medal 1945 - 1975.
The Australian Active Service Medal (1945 - 1975) was established in 1998 to recognise, with a distinctly Australian award, the service of Australian forces in warlike operations between 1945 and 1975. Veterans of the Korean War, Malayan Emergency, Indonesian Confrontation and Vietnam War all qualify for the AASM in addition to the campaign medals previously issued by the British Commonwealth for these actions. The AASM cannot be issued without a clasp. The clasp 'Malaysia' was authorised in 1998 for all those who qualified for the General Service Medal (1918-1962) with clasp 'Borneo', for service in Sabah, Sarawak or Brunei between 24 December 1962 and 11 August 1966, or the General Service Medal (1962 - ) with clasp 'Malay Peninsula', for service in the Malay Peninsula or Singapore between 17 August 1964 and 27 January 1973. All these operations were considered to form part of the 'Indonesian Confrontation'. 3963 clasps were issued.
