The Chinook or CH47 are heavy lift helicopters that were used to move large numbers of troop between the port of Vung Tau and Nui Dat the location of 1ATF, the Australian Task Force. The Chinook in this picture is American; the troops are Australians at Nui Dat. Australia didn’t begin to operate its own fleet of Chinooks until 1974.
