DescriptionCollection relating to the service of Captain Ivor Stephen Margetts, 12 Battalion, at sea, Egypt, Lemnos, Gallipoli, France, 1914-1916. Collection consists of a photostat copy of a diary kept by Captain Margetts between January 1915 and January 1916; twenty-eight photostat or typed copies of letters written by Margetts to his family; a typed copy of a detailed account by Margetts of the Landing and his first few days on Gallipoli; various copies of cablegrams, letters of condolence, newspaper cuttings, etc. Also included in the collection is a photostat copy of a letter written by Private George Arthur McKenzie, (regimental stretcher bearer), 12 Battalion, to Captain Margetts' father, relating the circumstances of the Captain's death at Pozieres.

Son of Stephen Ward Margetts and Charlotte Margetts, of Wynyard, Tasmania. Born at Launceston, Tasmania. Resident schoolmaster at the Hutchins School, Hobart, Tasmania; educated at the High School, Launceston. Before the war he had been a lieutenant in the 93rd (Derwent) Infantry, and was its adjutant from 21 October 1913. Joined the AIF at outbreak of war.
