Webbing belt : Captain, Iraqi Army
Description
Black nylon webbing waist belt of a captain of the Iraqi Army. The belt is manufactured from a length of green webbing material which has then been dyed black. The central fastener and sliding buckle for size adjustment are made of chrome plated brass with the remnants of a gold finish, while the two sliding clips to retain the loose ends of the belt are of chrome plated brass without gilt.
History / Summary
Webbing belt from an Iraqi Army officer's uniform, property of the captain of the Iraqi minelaying tug 'Jumariya' (also known as 'Jamahoria'). This tug was intercepted by a boarding party from HMAS Kanimbla, and was found to be towing a barge loaded with 20 Manta and 48 LUGM sea mines.
