History / Summary

Democratic Republic of Timor Leste Flag signed by members of Australian National Command Element (ASNCE) and visitors on the day of Timor Leste’s Independence Day – 20 May 2002. Organised by the COMASC, Colonel Gerard Fogarty, for display at ASNCE until its closure at the end of the Mission. The Australian War Memorial received the flag at the end of the ADFs contribution to the UN Mission and Support in East Timor, as requested by Colonel Fogarty. This flag design is generally accepted as the flag of Timor Leste on the restoration of the symbols from the independence of the Democratic Republic of Timor Leste in 1975.
