Description

Kookaburra dome tent in carry bag. Green synthetic carry bag when holding tent, is a tubular shape with black nylon webbing looped handles, and black zip that runs the length of the bag. The hand written text ‘BOYCE’ is on one side of the zip and ‘DAVIS’ on the other, in black felt pen. The domed tent and insect dome are constructed from dark green nylon with black synthetic mesh and zips. The tent is framed by collapsible metal poles, that when inserted maintain the dome shape, which can then be pegged to the ground. Instructions for erection and use of the tent are printed in black on a white synthetic sheet, attached to lining of the tent and bag.

History / Summary

The Kookaburra dome tents (also known as "Mossie Domes") were specifically purchased by the Australian Defence Force (ADF) for use in East Timor to combat the high level of airborne disease threat. They were not an initial issue item for the the deployment of INTERFET troops but were indivdually purchased by personnel. Once the ADF recognised the value of these tents soldiers were issued with them in East Timor once in country.

This type of tent was also used in the Solomon Islands.
