Description

File of papers relating to the First World War service of Lieutenant General Sir John Monash, Australian Corps. This file, originally part of Book 20, covers 31 July to 15 August 1918 and includes documents and messages relating to the Battle of Amiens. It includes a detailed outline and plan for the battle for each section; Infantry, Artillery, Engineers, Pioneers and Tanks, a timetable of events for the battle, a report on the German occupied areas of the Somme, and a number of congratulatory messages sent post-action. Additionally, the file contains several working copies of Monash's speech to the troops prior to attack, in which he describes potential victory as an action that "will live forever in the history of our homeland".
