Description

This folder contains 38 letters received by Field Marshal Lord Birdwood from men and women of various military and civilian positions between 1 January and 25 December 1918. Some of the correspondents are Field Marshal Douglas Haig, Lieutenant General Sir Joseph John Talbot Hobbs, Isabel Howell-Price, Sir Joseph Austen Chamberlain, Sir Henry Seymour Rawlinson, and Lieutenant Colonel Quinat. The subjects discussed in these letters include the outcomes of promotions, requests for sons to be sent home, stamp collecting, anti-British sentiment in Australia, the re-naming of Hahndorff and Blumberg in South Australia, and the Pflaum family in the newly named town of Birdwood. There are also replies to condolence and congratulatory letters sent by Birdwood.
