Portrait of 14 Trooper (Tpr) George Henry Richardson, 3rd Australian Light Horse Brigade, of St Arnaud, Victoria. A labourer prior to enlistment, Tpr Richardson had previously served in the South African (Boer) War with the 5th South Australian Imperial Bushmen. Tpr Richardson was promoted to Lance Corporal and embarked for service aboard HMAT Star of Victoria (A16) on 25 February 1915. He was promoted to Corporal (Cpl) and transferred to the Anzac Mounted Division and Australian Depot Stores, with whom he served in the Middle East before returning to Australia on 17 July 1919. Cpl Richardson was one of four brothers who served at Gallipoli: 3357 Driver (Dvr) William Keerin Richardson, 3rd Australian Light Horse Brigade; 2518 Private (Pte) Charles John Richardson, 16th Battalion and 1634 Pte Alfred Richardson, 14th Battalion, who died of wounds on 21 August 1915.
