Description
Diary relating to the First World War service of Second Lieutenant Thomas James Richards, 1st Australian Infantry Battalion. The entries in this diary span the period 3 April to 24 May 1917 and cover Richards’ return to the 1st Infantry Battalion from training, his participation in the Second Battle of Bullecourt in May, and his wounding by a bomb explosion. He would be awarded the Military Cross for his actions during the battle on 4 May 1917. This diary was originally bound by Richards into the last of four volumes and donated to the Australian War Memorial in 1933.
