Hand-coloured studio portrait of 422085 Flight Lieutenant John William (Jack) Shipman, 100 Squadron RAAF. A Wireless Air Gunner of Summer Hill, NSW, he was killed on operations on 13 March 1945 over New Guinea when the aircraft exploded due to a faulty bomb fuse. The other crew members also killed were 422062 Francis Owen (Frank) Smith of Manilla, NSW, and 415636 Harry John Fowler and 406817 Arthur Geoffrey Waite, both of Perth, WA.
