Affleck, Herbert Alexander (Sergeant, b.1891 - d.1917)
Collection relating to the First World War service of 871 Sergeant Herbert Alexander Affleck, 3 Battery, 1 Artillery Brigade, Egypt, Gallipoli, Western Front, 1914-1917. Collection consists of four diaries which detail Affleck's service in Broadmeadows training camp; landing at Gallipoli (25 April 1915) and following actions; hospitalisation and convalescence at Mudros and Malta; and action in France. Diaries chiefly contain brief entries recording Affleck's daily activities, with very little descriptive detail. Collection also contains three dried flowers.
Biographical note: 871 Lance Sergeant Herbert Alexander Affleck, 3 Battery, 1 Brigade, Australian Field Artillery. Killed in action, Ypres, 17 August 1917. Age 26. Son of Rebecca Lily Affleck of Glen Avon, Pine Grove, Malvern, Victoria, and the late Alexander J Affleck.
