Description

One of a series of posters called 'Headlines of History' produced by Newseum and the Office of International Information Programs, US Department of State, in 2002 to mark the anniversary of the events of September 11. Many of the newspaper front pages featured in 'Headlines of History' were first seen together in the 12th of September 2001 exhibit 'Today's Front Pages' produced by the Newseum, Arlington, Virginia. 'Headlines of History' was shown in several places around the world. This poster depicts the front page of the Le Monde, published in Paris, France, on September 13 2001. The main image shows the skyline of Manhattan as seen across the water, after terrorists hijacked planes and crashed them into the World Trade Center. The Statue of Liberty is visible and in the background clouds of smoke, ash and dust rise in the background.
