Description

Collection relating to the First World War service of QP20006 Major General James Murdoch Archer Durrant CMG, DSO, 13th Infantry Battalion and 4th Infantry Brigade, France and Belgium. Collection consists of a variety of reports, circulars, orders and administrative notes relating to the 4th Infantry Brigade activities during 1916-1917, including topics such as the Attack on Stormy Trench, the First Battle of Bullecourt, Allied and German aircraft. Also included are maps and aerial photographs from both Gallipoli and the Western Front; serials and newspaper clippings; personal notes; lectures prepared by Durrant; pamplets and other publications.

Following the Armistice, Durrant was appointed Deputy Director with the Repatriation and Demobilisation Department. He contined to serve in senior staff roles including as GOC of Western Command and later as GOC Northern Command during the Second World War.
