Photo analysis
Situated in close proximity to the epicentre of the 9.1 magnitude earthquake in 2004, Indonesia was the first country to be impacted by a tsunami.

Australian photographer Stephen Dupont, travelled to the capital of Aceh, Banda Aceh, in January 2005. He had previously taken photographs in Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Somalia, Rwanda, East Timor, the Solomon Islands, and Afghanistan.

In Banda Aceh, Dupont captured the immense destruction and suffering caused by the Boxing Day tsunami. Some of his images can be viewed in the slideshow below. Please note this slideshow contains images that some people may find distressing.
