Keeping the peace: stories of Australian peacekeepers - Enforcers
In many situations, armed force may be needed to provide the peaceful conditions that will allow people to rebuild their lives. This is often termed "peace enforcement". Organised, armed peacekeepers will generally be more than a match for disorganised militia or small individual groups. Concerted opposition, however, is more difficult to deal with: the international community cannot usually agree on how much force should be used, and peacekeeping forces are rarely given sufficient military resources to deal effectively with determined opponents.
