Airmen In A Village Pub Yorkshire

Miller Brittain
Airmen In A Village Pub Yorkshire

oil egg tempera on masonite
63.6 x 50.9cm
CWM 19710261-1431

Airmen are depicted off-duty in a British country bar. The airman on the left, resting his head on his arm, is said to be Brittain. The artist, a bomb aimer himself, identified with his comrades’ need for relaxation as an antidote to the relentless, stressful, and often distressing experience of service in Bomber Command.
