Description

Sky blue polyester overalls worn by a crew member of the Iraqi minelayer 'Jumariya'. The overalls have a patch pocket on the right rear, and one on the left breast. There are also patch pockets with slash openings at each hip. Shoulder straps are secured by grey plastic buttons, and there is a front zip closure from the waist to mid-chest. Above this, the garment is fastened by a single plastic button. At the waist on each side are sewn-in sections of elastic and a 42 cm length of belt. There is no fastener, and the belt is secured by tying the ends together. The legs have sewn-in front creases. Inside the collar is a white fabric manufacturer's label, printed in blue with Arabic script and an image of an anchor. Similar markings are stamped in blue ink on the fabric below the label.

History / Summary

Overalls taken from the Iraqi minelaying tug 'Jumariya' (also known as 'Jamahoria'). This tug was intercepted by a boarding party from HMAS Kanimbla, and was found to be towing a barge loaded with 20 Manta and 48 LUGM sea mines.
