Pro-tec Classic helmet
Black Pro-tec Classic full cut skateboarding style helmet. The helmet is lightweight and designed to resist impacts to the wearer's head. The polypropylene lining is designed to be replaced after several impacts. The pads, one of which covers the forehead and ears, the other which covers the back of the skull are attached to the inside of the helmet by Velcro tabs. The pad inside the crown of the helmet is glued in. The outside of the helmet is made from a hardened plastic. At the bottom of the ear guards is a stainless steel rivet which attaches the chin strap to the helmet. The chin strap on this example has been removed. The helmet's original colour is black, but this has been painted over in a tan colour which is flaking away. The helmet is also able to be worn over some communications gear and it's overall shape gives the wearer greater visibility and maneuverability in urban operations.
Type example of a Pro-Tec helmet used by Special Air Service Regiment (SASR) troops during their service in Afghanistan.
