Patrol pack
Plat A Tac patrol pack MkII in Disruptive Pattern Camouflage Uniform (DPCU) fabric. The pack has an integral harness and removable waist belt. The harness straps are shaped to fit the shoulders and chest of the wearer. The underside of the straps are covered in a nylon mesh designed to draw moisture away from the body during use. The harness straps have a chest strap to assist in keeping the pack stable during movement. The strap is secured by an adjustable 'KIFCO' brand clip. Above the chest strap on each side of the harness is a plastic 'D' ring secured by a strip of 25 mm nylon webbing tape.
The padded waist belt is held in place by velcro on it's reverse side and is locked in place by two flaps which fold over the belt and are secured with velcro. The belt flaps become a lumbar support when the belt is attached. The pack's padded back, the top flap of the belt cover and the underside of the belt are all covered with olive green nylon mesh to draw moisture away from the body. The waist belt is secured by a large adjustable 'KIFCO' brand clip which has been threaded onto 50 mm nylon webbing tape.
Two pouches are located centrally on the pack with two more pouches on each side of the pack. The side pouches are attached to another piece of material sewn each side of the pack, forming an open bottomed sleeve between pouch and pack. On each side of these pockets is a 25 mm nylon webbing strap tab which secures a plastic clip allowing more equipment to be attached. All four pouches have metal eyelets set into the bottom for drainage, drawstring and barrel lock throats, and pouch flaps that are secured by adjustable 'KIFCO' brand clips attached to nylon webbing tape. The flap of the left side pouch has the makers name, 'PLAT A TAC', and the platypus logo embroidered in olive green cotton. Underneath the two central pouches has been sewn a 50 mm nylon webbing strap divided vertically to form further attachment points. On the bottom of the patch had been sewn a strip of cordura, divided vertically to form five strap attachment points.
The pack has an extendable nylon neck secured by a drawstring and barrel lock. Inside the pack are three pockets, two small pockets on each side and a main pocket set against the pack's padded back. This pocket is designed to take a 'RAVEN' radio set or a hydration system. The inside of the pack's main flap has a map pocket, secured by velcro set into it. On the outside of the main flap are two small pouches, both with metal eyelets in the bottom for drainage, drawstring and barrel lock throats and pouch flaps secured by adjustable 'KIFCO' clips on nylon webbing straps. Between these pouches is an illumination square with a velcro flap to cover it when in tactical mode. On top of the main pack flap has been sewn a piece of 50 mm nylon webbing tape divided to form two attachment points. Just after the webbing tape is a black elasticised flap which covers an access point for the 'RAVEN' radio's aerial or a hydration system's hose. At the base of the flap is a nylon strap carry handle.
This Plat A Tac MKII patrol pack was used by an unknown member of the Australian Special Air Service Squadron in East Timor and Afghanistan.
