Special Parachute Unit Rucksack (SPUR) Tropical Pack
Tan coloured Plat A Tac Special Parachute Unit Rucksack (SPUR) Tropical pack with all external pockets and attachment points removed. The pack has an integral harness with adjustable nylon webbing straps and plastic buckles at the top and bottom of the shoulder straps.
The shoulder straps are padded, with the underside of the straps covered in nylon mesh to assist in moisture evaporation. On the upper side of the shoulder straps 25 mm nylon webbing tape has been attached to the top and bottom and sewn horizontally at several points on the strap. A plastic 'D' ring has been attached on each side to the nylon tape and below this is attached the chest strap. The chest strap is secured with an unbranded adjustable clip which is attached to 18 mm nylon webbing tape.
The pack has an adjustable ventilated frame which is designed to allow airflow between the wearer's back and the pack. The frame is made up of two crossed aluminium poles in nylon webbing tape sheaths at the back of the frame , three nylon covered foam pads attached to the pack's back and the mesh back support. The back support is made from padded, nylon mesh covered areas on each side and black nylon mesh in the middle of the support. At the back of each padded side are the attachment points for the aluminium poles. The back support can be adjusted by Velcro tabs which are attached to the main pack by plastic buckles.
The pack has two main storage compartments, secured across the top of the pack by zippers and adjustable 'Fastex' clips attached to 25 mm nylon webbing tape. Both compartments have metal eyelets for drainage set into the bottom of the pack. The first compartment has an internal pocket designed to hold a hydration system with the hose able to be threaded through a hole in the pack lining above. The hole is covered by rubberised material, sewn over the hole and cut near one edge. Set over the top of this, is the pack's carry handle which is made from 50 mm reinforced nylon webbing tape. The second compartment has no extra pouches on the inside, but there is a zippered pocket set on the outside of this. The zipper is set on an angle and has extra fabric to cover it.
Used on operations in East Timor, Iraq and Afghanistan by an unnamed Australian Special Air Service soldier.
