Group portrait of Officers Training School (OTS) cadets in Alexandra Gardens before or after a march through Melbourne with fixed bayonets to celebrate Navy Day. OTS cadets wore white cap bands instead of the usual black. Identified are, back row, standing: Jim Carr (6th from left); Paul Merrick (Mick) Dexter (8th from left); Doug Robertson (11th from left); William Griffith (Bill) Dovey (9th from right); Peter Adams? (7th from right). Front row, crouching: PM5327 Alfred John (Alf) Keam (10th from left). (This image is from the collection of Lieutenant Paul Merrick (Mick) Dexter, who enlisted in the Royal Australian Naval Volunteer Reserve (RANV) in 1943, and was a watchkeeper and anti-submarine specialist on Corvettes between 1944 and 1946. He continued to serve in the RANV after the Second World War, resigning his commission in 1964.
