Description

Album of 28 pages (including inside covers) containing 88 photographs and 56 postcards. Items are from numerous soldiers that were sent to donor's grandmother Annie Rose Scott Cowen. Photographs and postcards have captions and other annotations on reverse and include portraits of soldiers; scenes of Light Horse units on parade and in the Middle East. There is a selection of paraphernalia including notes of appreciation, field postcards and red-cross driving passes.

A number of the images and letters are related to 156 Private John ‘Jack’ Helenus Scott Hamilton, who was related to Annie. It also includes letters and/or photographs of the following people: Sister Florence Narelle Jessie Hobbes; 2645 Private James Dickie; 2106 Lieutenant Basil Sperling Morse; 1847A Driver Robert Wellesley Armstrong, 1315 Private Francis Cesari; 217 Sergeant Hanilton William Irwin; 1984 Lance Corporal Harvey Hilder Provan; 21283 John 'Jack' Andrew Smith; 3264 Private Thomas William Pearson; 8466 Driver Charles Scott Rayment; 15182 Driver Hubert Brenchley Oelrichs.

There are a number of unidentified individuals including; Hallon Sams (potentially a Boer War veteran, killed later in France), Arthur H Northcott, Matron Bishop, A Valentine Soul (possibly a pseudonym), Billy Barton, a studio portrait of Hubert by Mina Moore (possibly in the Flying Corps), Lyla Bell (VAD Red Cross), “The Missus” (possibly related to W G H Magill) and a soldier named Gordon.
