File of papers relating to the First World War service of Major General John Monash, 3rd Australian Division. This file, originally part of Book 17, covers 1 November 1917 to 13 January 1918 and includes orders, operation documents and plans relating to the third phase of fighting at Ypres. It also contains a casualty list for October, a note from Sir Birdwood in regards to the conscription referendum in Australia, a draft introduction to a forthcoming book by Reverend Cuttriss on Australian soldiers written by Monash, a circular on the establishment of a football tournament for the 3rd Australian Division, a booklet advising on how to best keep accurate historical records and others messages relating to Christmas 1917.
