Map
The British war office produced various maps to assist the war effort. The 1:100,000 maps covered an area of some 3,500 square kilometres and showed townships, major buildings, waterways, forests, railways and other useful information. The smaller scale 1: 10,000 maps showed much more detail, such as trenches and smaller landscape features. The maps were often made with a gauze backing to reduce the risk of tearing along the folds.
