Red Cross badge
A Red Cross badge or patch was given to those who volunteered with the Red Cross Society during the Second World War.
The Australian Red Cross Society was formed just after the outbreak of the First World War in August 1914. During the Second World War the Red Cross performed services such as vocational training, library services, and ambulance driving as well as catering, fundraising, and medical work. The Red Cross Voluntary Aid Detachments worked in hospitals and convalescent homes alongside doctors and nurses. The Red Cross also contributed to the well-being of prisoners of war by providing food parcels and medical attention.
