Shared Experience: Lyndon Dadswell (1908–1986)
Art and War
Dadswell studied with Julian Ashton between 1923 and 1925 and at the East Sydney Technical College with sculptor Rayner Hoff between 1926 and 1929. He enlisted in 1940, and in 1941 was appointed an official war artist in the Middle East. He returned to Australia in 1942, suffering from a serious head wound sustained while a soldier. Dadswell became an advocate for modernist sculpture and an influential teacher.
