Shared Experience: Ralph Walker (1912–2003)
Art and War
Walker studied at the East Sydney Technical College with sculptor Rayner Hoff. He enlisted in 1941, serving as a camouflage instructor. From 1944 to 1947 he was employed as an official war artist, primarily to collect ideas for the dioramas that he completed after the war. His sculptures are distinctive for their compassion rather than the glorification of subjects.
