Description

Anti-conscription rally. An unknown person wrote on the verso of the photograph: "This is a picture taken by young Edwards on the Yarra Bank a week before Referendum day. These slackers are selling Dr Mannix's photo from 6d [6 pence] each. Dirty dogs!" Dr Daniel Mannix, a Catholic priest and later Archbishop of Melbourne, was involved in campaigns against the 1916 and 1917 conscription referendums in Australia opposing the views of Prime Minister Hughes.
