Reynolds, Herbert Vincent (Private, b.1896 - d.1978)

Collection relating to the service of 622 Private Herbert Vincent Reynolds, 1 Field Ambulance, AIF, Australia, At Sea, Egypt, Gallipoli, Western Front, England, 1914-1919. Collection consists of a bound copy of 'An Anzac's story: the story of H.V. Reynolds from his letters, diaries, documents and photos' compiled and published by Rex Reynolds, [son of Herbert Vincent Reynolds]. This copy bears the handwritten inscription: "To:- Australian War Memorial. From:- Rex Reynolds. Limited Edition. No. 12 of 20. [signed] Rex E Reynolds, 28.2.08."

Private Herbert Vincent Reynolds was part of the First Field Ambulance when he enlisted in 1914 at the age of 18 having been a cadet since the age of 14. The diary entries and correspondence cover his service in Egypt, Gallipoli and France and also the period in between Gallipoli and France where he became ill and was sent to hospital (Malta and then England). Private H.V. Reynolds was discharged in 1919 as being medically unfit. He married in 1928 and was later made mayor of Sebastopol, Victoria.
