Description

This file contains copies of 22 letters written by Field Marshal Lord William Birdwood to Lord Clive Wigram between 3 December 1915 and 8 August 1919. These letters are largely written to Wigram in his capacity as the Assistant Secretary to King George V and many mention messages to be passed on to the King, as well as numerous wishes for the King to see Australian officers whilst they visit London. Some of the other topics mentioned in these letters include the weather prior to the evacuation from Gallipoli, the evacuation itself, re-organisation of the AIF in Egypt, training, Anzac leave, the 1914 medal, conscription referendums, and the liberation of Lille.
