DPDU windproof smock
Early pattern 'PLAT A TAC' wind proof smock in Disruptive Pattern Desert Uniform (DPDU) pattern fabric. These smocks were tailor made for 1 Squadron, SASR in 2003. The fabric is lightweight and is produced by the Platypus Outdoors Group. The hood is integral and has a Velcro strap at the back and a loop inside the neck to secure the hood when not in use. There is an elasticised drawstring with a barrel lock located at the base of the hood. The smock has four external pockets, two at the breast and two at the waist. The pockets are expandable and have an extra length of fabric which is sewn to the underside of the pocket flap to form a secure fold. The pocket flaps are all straight and are secured with large plastic buttons. The buttons are large to assist the wearer opening and closing the flap while wearing gloves.
On each sleeve is a utility pocket with a straight flap secured by two buttons. The buttons on the right pocket are missing. Above each of the utility pockets are Velcro patches to accommodate country and unit patches as well as Infra Red, Identify Friend or Foe tabs (IR-IFF). The elbow area on each sleeve has been reinforced and at the end of the sleeves are large, adjustable Velcro tabs. The body of the smock is loosely cut to accommodate cold weather clothing to be worn underneath. The hem of the jacket has an elasticised drawstring threaded through with a barrel lock attached at each end.
The smock is secured by a zipper running vertically from waist to throat. The zipper is covered by a flap from the left side of the jacket. This is then secured by Velcro at the neck, waist and hem. Inside the jacket, the hood and shoulder area has been lined with a breathable fabric designed to wick sweat away from the wearer's body. There is one internally hung zippered pocket on the left side of the smock. The maker's label and size label are sewn into the middle of the jacket's back. The label is olive green with 'PLAT A TAC' and the platypus logo embroidered in brown cotton. The small black tag under this has 'SIZE XL / MADE IN / AUSTRALIA' embroidered in yellow cotton. In the waist of the jacket has been sewn a waist band with an elasticised. The drawstring is secured by barrel locks located at the left and right hip.
