Toy camel

Soft toys are often sent by Australian servicemen and servicewomen to their children at home. Lieutenant Ross Shackleton was serving in Afghanistan when he sent a toy camel to his son, Alexander, and wife, Tiffany. The camel (named Diana) became the school pet at Alexander’s preschool. Each child had the opportunity to take Diana home for the weekend and share their experiences with her in a journal collated by the families. It became a way for the children to connect with Ross while he was serving in Afghanistan.
