Entertainment was an essential part of maintaining morale and fighting boredom. There was no lack of talent on which to call, and a great deal of skill and ingenuity went into producing scripts, sets and costumes.
By the end of 1943 many of those who had performed, or those who had watched, were either dead or scattered over work camps in Burma, Thailand, Borneo and Japan.
