Description

Haramura, Honshu, Japan, c. 1950-09. With their Bren gun carrier no. 3399 halted on a narrow, muddy track, three members of the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), look to see what is happening further along the road. Sitting on the back of the Bren gun carrier are two other battalion members (left), one of whom has the earphone of a radio plugged into his ear. The soldier at right is holding a pipe which he is about to fill with tobacco prior to smoking it. Pools of water lie on either side of the track, following recent rain probably from a typhoon. The soldiers are taking part in a training exercise in preparation for 3RAR's move to Korea from BCOF. (Donor I. Robertson)
